About The Facilities:
Meet the Staff
Erik received his bachelors degree from Five Towns College in May of 2010. The Valedictorian of his graduating class, he majored in jazz and Commercial music with a concentration in audio recording technology. In addition to his top academic rank, he also received the Audio Recording Technology Award at commencement.
While a student, Erik pursued an interest in musical instrument repair through independent study. After landing an apprenticeship at a local shop, he was soon repairing instruments for many of his classmates and even a few of his professors. By the time of graduation, Erik was overseeing a busy in-store repair shop for the country’s largest music retailer. Before leaving to pursue his own business, he served as an “area specialist” for the corporation. In this capacity he assisted with the hiring and training of new technicians within the company.
In 2016 Erik focused his efforts on building Guitar Repair Long Island. What began as a single repair bench squeezed into a one bedroom apartment has grown to become the areas largest and most respected place for fretted instrument repair.
As a musician, Erik has performed with original rock groups, award wining collegiate ensembles, "cover" and wedding bands, as well as solo acoustic shows. He has experienced both open-mic night slots and multi-state tours. Erik has also recorded three albums of original music. His other interests include: running, rock climbing, hiking, travel, and his pet cats.
Always seeking to further his craft, Erik frequently attends luthier training seminars and has visited the factories of many of the country’s leading guitar manufacturers. He prides himself on professionalism, integrity, and craftsmanship
Andrew graduated from Five Towns College in 2011 with a degree in Music Education. A member of the Phi Sigma Eta Honor Society, he received the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement upon graduation.
Andrew began apprenticing under Erik Salomon in 2014. As Guitar Repair Long Island came to fruition, he was the obvious first hire. Andrew shares the values of integrity and craftsmanship that G.R.L.I. is known for. Reserved and exceptionally capable, he is a trusted confidant and has been an integral part of the business almost since inception. His chief responsibilities in shop are setups and fretwork.
In addition to his work as a repairman, Andrew is also a professional solo guitarist/vocalist for weddings and special events. He lives in Ronkonkoma with his wife, daughter, and their two dogs.
